Last year and this past year were years of weddings and milestone birthday celebrations, and to mark each event, I had some dresses made in Nigeria. I have a love-hate relationship with the process of getting to the final product. One major stepping stone to get past is finding the right tailor. I say the right tailor as I’ve learnt the hard way what happens if this part isn’t done well. You may end up with a top and skirt, when what you wanted was a jumpsuit….. Also, do your research - find evidence of the quality of work they have produced. I would suggest going as far as speaking to the tailor on the phone/video conference. Not once, but on an ongoing basis as the dress is being made. Your peace of mind will thank you.

This particular dress was inspired by a video I saw on Instagram. I especially liked the back and the fact that it wasn’t a corset dress. Don’t get me wrong, I love to feel snatched, but like with everything, in moderation. The colors for the event were royal blue and gold, and I think the detailing of the dress/material captured the theme perfectly. I’ve worn this dress more than once, and my accessories, hair, and makeup have been different each time, but not always captured in film. Given the neckline of the dress, I would say it’s best to go with a messy high bun/ponytail with statement earrings. I would go with a gold clutch (I am on the hunt for one, so please let me know if you have any ideas on where to get a budget-friendly one).

What are your thoughts on this look? Should I do more of these? My goal is to one day work with more Africian designers like Sandrah Tubobereni. I’m manifesting, guys! Just say “amen” on my behalf!

Until next time,
